I was at the RecSta from Apr 1951. I was in the Transportation Section which was, if I remember right, were the desks just next to ours.\

: : : : Treasure Island was my first duty station out of boot camp (San
: : : Diego). I was assigned as a mess cook in the Receiving Station

: : : hall, feeding hundreds of transient Navy and Marine personnel as

: : : as the ship's company every day. After four months I was assigned

: : : the Transfer Section of the Receiving Station where I worked the
: : : Speed-Ball Desk for the next 12 months, after which, I was
: accepted
: : : for Submarine School at New London, Conn. This was one of the
: : : highlights of my 20 year Navy careed. Even though the Commanding
: : : Officer boasted that he was the measnest SOB in the Navy, carrying
: : out
: : : that boast daily, it was still a wonderful tour.
: : : : p.s. I came back to the Bay Area for a four year tour at the
: Naval
: : : Recruiting Station located at the Federal Building on the corner
