The basement was a busy and crowded place. I was a Radioman First Class for Commander
Western Sea Frontier (COMWESTSEAFRON)
1968-1970. We worked with Commander Ocean Systems Pacific and the ships that trailed
the Russian subs that were off the coast. Lots of 12 on and 12 off during those times.
Had several teletype machines connected to various military commands, plus to the
Operations Center and the Comm Center. Had 2 or 3 transmitters we had to set up when
working with the ships.
Remember Red who ran that concession stand. He learned our voices very quickly. New
people were usually treated to him taking off his glasses.
