Why were people allowed to move onto the island in the late 1 990s, ev en when the Nav y and San Francisco
political leaders knew there might be health risks? At the time, city officials worried that the former Navy
housing would decay and lose v alue, and San Francisco was looking for an additional source of rev enue to
offset the cost of managing Treasure Island. The city anticipates receiv ing approx imately $4.3 million in fiscal
year 2012-13 from market-rate rental housing revenues.
I Live on the Island from 1977 to 1984 and worked at the
fire fighting school for 18 months and 18 months at building 3
HTA School, I just found out about the The level of
radioactive contamination we were exposed to wile living on the Island, and my children went to school and playe on the Island.
