: :I was in The City this past Friday(7/6) and decided to stop by TI to check things out. I was saddened to see the condition it was in. My old house along with several others were fenced off with signs that said "Under Environmental Investigation for Hazardous Substances". It looked like a ghetto. I'm told my older sister that I'm going to remember it how it was when we were kids...I really hope they do something with the island.

: : I lived in 1131 F Gateview, I could see the Golden Gate & Alcatraz from my bedroom window. I was a member of the Explorers (Post 517) we camped & hiked all over CA. I went to Francisco Jr High in the city. had lots of fun there. 1969 to 1971.

: : : I lived there from '77 to '80 (I think). We lived at 1306c Gateview. I remember all the work being done to save the fountain mainly because my mother was "The Fountain Lady". She would walk over and pull weeds and pick up trash etc.... I loved it there also. My parents seemed to be involved in everything, there was such a community atmosphere. I have wonderful memories of TI. I want to go back before it turns into condos.

I was stationed there from 78-79 as the Transiet Barracks Postal Clerk. I lived in the star shaped buildings C building 3rd floor and woke up to Alcatraz and the GGB out my window. I too didn't appreciate the Island because I was young. I wish I could visit it again sometime. I used to do security lockdown and checks of Building 1 the horseshoe shaped building on the right when you first come on the Island. I am now 47 and I want to show my family where I used to stay. I am from Indiana so when they open the Disney Museum out at the Predsidio in 09 I am planning a vacation and I hope to visit TI if I am allowed
