: : : Served at Treasure Island from 5/30/51 to 9/22/52
: : : Treasure Island was my first duty station out of boot camp (San
: : Diego). I was assigned as a mess cook in the Receiving Station
mess
: : hall, feeding hundreds of transient Navy and Marine personnel as
: well
: : as the ship's company every day. After four months I was assigned
: to
: : the Transfer Section of the Receiving Station where I worked the
: : Speed-Ball Desk for the next 12 months, after which, I was
accepted
: : for Submarine School at New London, Conn. This was one of the
: : highlights of my 20 year Navy careed. Even though the Commanding
: : Officer boasted that he was the measnest SOB in the Navy, carrying
: out
: : that boast daily, it was still a wonderful tour.
: : : p.s. I came back to the Bay Area for a four year tour at the
Naval
: : Recruiting Station located at the Federal Building on the corner
of
: : Levenworth and Grove Streets, San Francisco.
