Hello :
I was stationed there in 1969 and was there when they opened the new concrete barracks. 1970 Spring? IIRC.
the old ww2 barracks could burn to the ground in 3 mins. flat.
we had one night witch killed when a inmate of the brig , got loose.
I never got cold ,because i had long johns. My dad warned me about poor naval clothing.
We were the first to occupy the new buildings.
by comparison it was like getting a room in the Marriott Hotel.
2 men to a room. wow. Clean new and fire proof.
I was an ET and I still am, I just retired from IBEW yesterday.
i have photos of the building If anyone wants them. free.
I was a ETR2 when discharged in 1974. Served on a Destroyer.
One guy one day , fired up the SPS-29C radar and aimed it at the navy exchange across the street and blow up all the flash bulbs. Close call to a fire. not too smart.
THey locked the asmith gear, to stop that.
But marching to class ,what silliness that was?
Yes, on every Friday we pick all a bunch of gals from the wav cage or the bam Hall. And go South of Pacifica and have beach party.
Early Liberty!!! hoo haaaa
